Modern Lab Panel Adds Two Speakers

Tuesday, September 3, 2019 12:24 AM LAS VEGAS—Two new speakers will join a panel of optical lab owners at the upcoming Modern Lab event during Vision Expo to discuss how investments in technology and the workforce are helping labs remain competitive. The new panelists are Paul Faibish and Javan Diaz. Faibish is the president and owner of Canada’s largest independent optical lab, Plastic Plus Limited in Toronto, Canada. In 2017, he expanded the company by opening a new facility that has allowed it to double lens manufacturing capacity and expand frame inventory and distribution.

Cognivue Enters Vision Field With FDA-approved Computerized Cognitive Function Test.

Cognivue Advanced is the first FDA-approved computerized test of cognitive function. Accessible Products Hotline Launches

Funded by a grant from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) Foundation, the hotline will be operated by the William L. Hudson BVI Workforce Innovation Center, connecting callers with professional advice about purchasing and operating the top home, office and personal use products on the market today.

Back to School Starts at Different Times Around the Country, But Now's the Time to Maximize Children's Eye Health Messages

And depending on where you live, that statement might produce a reaction of either “That sounds about right” or “That seems way too early!” Pew Research Center recently issued a report on the topic. The prize for the earliest start date among the 500-plus districts in Pew’s sample goes to Arizona’s Chandler Unified School District, which serves part of suburban Phoenix. The 44,000 or so students in Chandler Unified went back to school on July 23 (though they get the first of three two-week “intersession” breaks starting Sept. 30). At the other extreme are the Trenton, New Jersey public schools, whose nearly 14,000 students won’t go back to school until Sept. 9—the latest opening date in the sample.

The Contact Lens Museum Officially Opens to the Public

Monday, August 5, 2019 12:18 AM FOREST GROVE, Ore.—On July 30, 2019, The Contact Lens Museum was officially opened to the general public. The museum was founded by Patrick J. Caroline, FAAO, Jiah Pack and Craig Norman, FCLSA, who are all collectors of contact lens artifacts, instruments and publications. The museum, which houses more than 2,000 historical items documenting the history of contact lenses over the past 100-plus years, is free to the public and located in Forest Grove, Oregon. The goal of the museum is to preserve, protect and educate ECPs, researchers, historians and the public about the history of contact lenses, and features a chronological series of the evolution of contact lenses.
