FOREST GROVE, Ore.—On July 30, 2019, The Contact Lens Museum
was officially opened to the general public. The museum was founded by Patrick J. Caroline, FAAO, Jiah Pack and Craig Norman, FCLSA, who are all collectors of contact lens artifacts, instruments and publications. The museum, which houses more than 2,000 historical items documenting the history of contact lenses over the past 100-plus years, is free to the public and located in Forest Grove, Oregon. The goal of the museum is to preserve, protect and educate ECPs, researchers, historians and the public about the history of contact lenses, and features a chronological series of the evolution of contact lenses.

WASHINGTON—Researchers report a new imaging system that cancels the chromatic optical aberrations present in a specific person’s eye, allowing for a more accurate assessment of vision and eye health. By taking pictures of the eye’s smallest light-sensing cells with multiple wavelengths, the system also provides the first objective measurement of longitudinal chromatic aberrations (LCA), which could lead to new insights on their relationship to visual halos, glare and color perception.

announced that it has received a key approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for on-eye testing of iOptik, a proprietary contact lens designed to be worn with the company’s augmented and virtual reality eyewear. The IRB has approved a protocol for single exposure of Innovega’s iOptik contact lens and prototype display eyewear simultaneously for up to six hours, allowing augmented reality subject experts to report their observations when viewing media from Innovega's eMacula near-eye display eyewear, Innovega said in a statement.

TUCSON, Ariz.—Researchers in Arizona report that they have developed a compact device that uses a laser to determine a patient’s refractive error and eyeglass prescription. The hand-held device was developed by iCrx, a spinoff from the University of Arizona’s Wyant College of Optical Sciences
. It can produce an objective and accurate eyeglass prescription in approximately 20 seconds without any subjective input from the viewer, according to the UAVenture Capital Fund
(UAVC), a Tucson-based venture capital fund dedicated to the University of Arizona commercialization of discovery products, technology and services that has invested in iCrx.

(HVC). Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. The transaction brings together HVC’s long-standing expertise in the manufacturing and distribution of high performance contact lenses with Clerio’s innovative product pipeline, Clerio said in a statement issued today. HVC, founded in 2002, is best known for its Extreme H2O product line and its multiple differentiated offerings that personalize the contact lens wearing experience.
