ST. LOUIS—A new webinar series is underway, with registration still open and available, for a series tackling issues about diversity, equity & inclusion, hosted by the Association of Schools & Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) with the support of Johnson & Johnson Vision. The ASCO's Eye on Diversity Speaker Series is comprised of powerful, one-of-a kind webinars on a host of diversity topics by world-renowned content experts from outside optometry. The ASCO’s Eye on Diversity Speaker Series, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Vision, will reveal unique insights and perspectives on diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging issues, organizers said.

The series of six powerful sessions will illuminate issues that face optometry students, residents, faculty, practitioners and their staff members on a daily basis, ASCO noted. A description of each of the provocative sessions are posted here.

"The Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry and its member institutions have embraced the concepts of diversity and multiculturalism in optometric education and in the profession. Goals include developing an applicant pool, student community, faculty and profession that reflects the diversity of the U.S. population, while  preparing future optometric clinicians for practicing in a multicultural and global society."

Two sessions have been delivered and are being posted. Upcoming on Oct. 20 is "Creating an Inclusive Environment for LBGT+ Patients and Staff." On Nov. 3, the webinar is "Building an Inclusive Culture - As a Doctor of Optometry, What’s in It for Me?" On Nov. 17 is "Reframing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - How Difference Can Make a Difference." On Dec. 14, the webinar is "The Dangers of Whitewashing History."

More details and registration options are posted here. Registrants can attend one or all six sessions. Each of the registration links on the website is specific to each speaker. Once someone registers, the person gets a link to listen to the presentation and the live Q&A after.

Then, after the presentation is over, registered attendees will receive the link of the recording. If someone didn’t participate in the live presentation/Q&A they can view the recording once it’s posted to the ASCO site (registration on the site is required). There is no charge for registration for ECPs or students.
