Quick Take: Meta Platforms, Inc. and EssilorLuxottica have announced a series of new software features, updates to Meta AI and a more diverse product assortment for the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.
Specifics: New frame styles include Skyler, inspired by Ray-Ban’s ‘60s archive and the golden age of air travel, and Headliner, which features a low bridge and is designed to suit smaller faces. In addition, four new Transitions lens colors are available exclusive to the Ray-Ban Meta collection. The collection now offers 30 styles with hundreds of color and style combinations.
Multimodal AI updates began testing in December 2023. Ray-Ban Meta frames now feature Meta AI with Vision functionality in the U.S. and Canada in beta version, which allows users to do things like translate text on signs, identify objects in front of them and write captions for photos. Video calling is also new to the smart glasses; users can press the capture button twice to switch to the camera on the frames.
Selling Point: Rocco Basilico, chief wearables officer at EssilorLuxottica, said, “The breakneck pace of innovation means that we are in a different place today than we were even yesterday. Consumers are already used to the idea that tech can be worn and woven seamlessly into their lives. Now they're asking, can it make me smarter? More creative? More productive? Ray-Ban Meta, particularly with the addition of Meta AI with Vision, is a bold leap forward in terms of what it can do for the person who wears them. We're delivering the next generation of superpowers, and we've tucked them neatly into the world's favorite glasses.”
