Latest News OneSight Launches Global Challenge to Raise Funds for Six New Vision Centers By Staff Friday, September 1, 2017 12:27 AM MASON, Ohio—OneSight, a global nonprofit organization sponsored and founded by Luxottica, is teaming up with the nonprofit technology firm, everydayhero, to launch its first global fitness and fundraising challenge. The “Ready Set See” challenge, which runs from Sept. 1 until World Sight Day on Oct. 12, is open to supporters from around the globe who can participate by running, walking, biking or swimming to raise funds for six new vision centers, which will bring access to vision care and glasses to more than 1.25 million people in need, according to a OneSight announcement. The challenge is supported by Walman as the presenting sponsor, as well as silver sponsors Aetna, Combined Insurance, LCA Vision and Transitions Optical, according to the announcement.There are a few simple steps to register and participate in the Ready Set See challenge, according to OneSight’s announcement. First, sign up on the challenge’s home page, readysetsee.org, where you also can invite friends to participate in the challenge. Second, connect your personal fitness tracking device, including a FitBit, MapMyFitness or Strava, to track your distance or log your activity, and also ask your friends to help your fund-raising efforts by donating on your Ready Set See page. Finally, get active in running, walking, biking and/or swimming and share your distances on social media. “Participants will also experience a virtual journey across the six countries they will be impacting and the collective distance and fundraising results for the challenge will be tracked real-time,” according to the announcement. Fundraising from the challenge will help open a new vision center in each of the following countries: China, East Timor, India, Rwanda, the U.S. and Zambia.“At OneSight, we know that there are one in seven people around the world that can’t see clearly, because they can’t get an eye exam or a pair of glasses,” Mony Iyer, OneSight’s executive director, said in the statement.
