EYECARE VSP Vision Launches Future Leaders Academy Professional Development Program for Recent Graduates and Early-Career ODs By Staff Monday, November 11, 2024 12:27 AM RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.—VSP Vision has announced the launch of the VSP Vision Future Leaders Academy, a new professional development program for recent optometry school graduates and early-career optometrists. According to the announcement, the program is designed to support emerging optometrists by providing exclusive access to development resources, helping foster valuable leadership skills for long-term career growth, and building strong relationships within the optometric industry. "We’re proud to launch the VSP Vision Future Leaders Academy to empower young optometrists with the skills, knowledge and connections that support their long-term success,” said VSP Vision chief provider and industry solutions officer Michelle Skinner. “As the profession of optometry continues to evolve, we remain committed to helping the next generation thrive.” The hybrid program, consisting of both virtual and in-person opportunities, will run from March to November 2025, according to VSP Vision, offering 30 selected program participants a variety of learning and networking opportunities, including: ● In-person and virtual education covering topics such as leadership development, business and financial acumen and insights into the optometric profession. ● One-on-one mentorship opportunities with established, senior-level optometrists. ● Small group leadership lab discussions. ● Networking events to grow professional connections. Recent graduates and early career optometrists within the first seven years of their career are encouraged to apply. The program is free for all participants, and VSP Vision said it will cover all travel costs associated with the required in-person networking events on March 28-29, 2025 and November 14-15, 2025. The selection process will include an application along with a panel interview with the program team. Program participants will be selected for their dedication to optometry and patient care, in addition to their past and potential leadership involvement.
