NEW YORK—The world is paying significantly more attention to products, materials, office and dispensary, and boutique design that embrace sustainability principles and components. This is true as the international optical/eyewear community comes together. In fact, at several upcoming international exhibitions and conferences, sustainability and green materials will be embraced and ideas shared via more awards and competition opportunities.

September’s Silmo will be joining forces with the CSR Agency Hyssop, which will develop specifications for the prize and provide a third party evaluation of the companies submitting an application to be recognized for the new Responsible Company Prize.

These will be awarded in addition to the prestigious Silmo d’Or award honors. Details are posted here.

Mido, slated for Feb. 2-4, 2024, will once again honor optical centers and retailers and those suppliers most actively engaged in sustainability. In 2023, as VMAIL reported, the Milan-based international optics fair organized its first CSE – Certified Sustainable Eyewear Award in partnership with ANFAO, the Italian manufacturers’ association and Certottica, the Italian Institute for the Certification of Optical Products, for the most sustainable booth. Last year, the award went to Marchon (Stand Up For Green) as well as the companies most actively engaged in sustainability. A look at the companies recognized last year is posted here.

Details about the upcoming awards are posted here.
