BASEL, Switzerland, and MILAN, Spain—European lens manufacturer and distributor Optiswiss AG and lens technology and research company Indizen Optical Technologies (IOT) announced that they have formalized their development partnership. According to a joint statement, through this partnership, IOT and Optiswiss aim to fully leverage synergies in their collaboration and optimally pool their shared resources. The announcement notes that IOT and Optiswiss laid a significant foundation for joint development projects in early 2024 by collaborating on “SMYLE,” a special lens designed to slow down the progression of myopia. Moving forward, both companies will work together on further innovative technologies, particularly on progressive lenses.

“The partnership with IOT combined research and development capacities and pooled know-how that is rarely found in the market. This gives us completely different opportunities and approaches to realize future development projects,” said Samuel Frei, chief executive officer at Optiswiss AG. “We are very confident that we will be launching new and exclusive technologies (by Optiswiss) in the near future, which will enable our partners to differentiate themselves sustainably and provide their customers with the best possible care.”

Optiswiss noted that through the partnership, the company expects to benefit from IOT's research and development center expertise, as well as from collaborations with other well-known institutes and universities. According to the statement, both companies are committed to striving to create market-enriching innovations that offer genuine added value, firmly believing that collaborations with the right partners deliver the best results.

“This partnership reinforces our long-term commitment to collaborative innovation for Optiswiss products. By building dynamic ecosystems through co-creation, we bring together our expertise to create solutions that far exceed what we could achieve on our own,” said Carolina Gago, chief operating officer at IOT. “This collaboration with Optiswiss allows us to innovate with purpose, delivering greater value to lens wearers and leaving a lasting positive impact on the future of our industry. It also empowers vision care professionals, enhancing their competitive edge in a rapidly evolving market.”
