NEW YORK and MILAN—A new eyewear design award will be announced formally at the upcoming Mido exhibition in Milan on Feb. 3 at a special press event at Rho-Pero. The Sergio Cereda Eyewear Design Award has been created to create a prestigious new accolade in the optical industry, organizers said. The award is a tribute to Sergio Cereda, an influential figure in international eyewear design. Cereda, retired, had a career that spanned decades and reshaped the landscape of the industry, noted Harvey Ross, CEO of Optyx Retail Group and founder of HMR Holdings.

Ross, in collaboration with the Cereda family and Mido organizers, is spearheading this initiative.Ross stated, “The Sergio Cereda Eyewear Design Award is not just a competition; it's a beacon for future eyewear innovation, celebrating Mr. Cereda's enduring legacy. We invite young designers throughout Europe to embrace this opportunity and showcase their creativity."

Mido president Giovanni Vitaloni added, "This award is a significant step in recognizing and inspiring new talent in our field, honoring the remarkable contributions of Sergio Cereda to eyewear design."

The Cereda family expressed their enthusiasm. “Sergio loved the idea of this design award. We wholeheartedly support this initiative and encourage young designers to pursue a career in this vibrant and rewarding field."
 
The award is more than just an accolade; its organizers stated the award is a commitment to fostering new talent in eyewear design. They said, “The award offers a $5,000 prize, symbolizing our dedication to education and career development in the international optical industry. It reflects Sergio’s passion for nurturing the next generation of designers.”
 
The award entries will be judged by an esteemed international panel, including Harvey Ross, Vitaloni, Caterina Cereda, Stefania Cereda-Oppermann and eyewear designer Bruno Palmegiani.
