RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.—VSP Vision has earned the designation of 4 Star Employer in the 2024 VETS Indexes Employer Awards, the company has announced. This marks the third consecutive year that VSP Vision was recognized for its commitment to recruiting, hiring, retaining, developing and supporting veterans and the military-connected community. “At VSP Vision, we understand the importance of supporting the career goals of military service members, veterans, and their families,” said Kristi Cappelletti-Matthews, VSP Vision chief human resources officer.

“The military community brings a wealth of innovation to VSP Vision that aligns with our business objectives, as well as robust soft skills that are critical for building and maintaining a culture of belonging.”

The company called out the following programs at VSP Vision that support veterans, military and their families:

  • The Military, Veterans, and Families (MVF) Business Resource Group (BRG) offers staff a catalog of strategic programming that supports both their personal and professional goals. This cohesion supports the BRG vision of ensuring military, veterans and families are thriving in the communities in which they live and work.

  • Each November, VSP Vision celebrates Veterans Appreciation Month with content and events that offer employees the opportunity to connect and learn about the experiences of the MVF community, both within the company and in a broader scope.

  • In addition, as part of VSP Vision’s One Team culture, teammates have engaged in projects that include creating care packages for deployed service members in partnership with Troopathon, formerly Move America Forward, and by participating in Wreaths Across America, where volunteers across the country remember and honor veterans by laying remembrance wreaths on the graves of fallen heroes.
This year, a record 344 organizations submitted completed surveys for the VETS Indexes Employer Awards, an increase of more than 100 submissions from last year and nearly triple the number from two years ago, the company noted. VSP Vision was one of 285 recognized organizations that demonstrated a strong commitment to veterans, members of the National Guard and Reserves, and military spouses. Participating organizations included a range of companies, government agencies and departments, nonprofit groups, colleges and universities.

“Competition for the VETS Indexes Employer Awards was tougher than ever in 2024, as a record number of organizations participated,” said George Altman, president of VETS Indexes. “Even with hundreds of employers in the running, the veterans program at VSP Vision stood out from the rest. Congratulations to VSP Vision on this outstanding achievement.”
