TRUMBULL, Conn.—IDOC’s annual national conference, The Connection 2024, drew more than 1,000 attendees to Kalahari Resorts and Conventions in Texas, including IDOC members, sponsor representatives, and other industry professionals from across the country. The theme for this year’s event was “Wildly Independent,” inspiring attendees to think outside the box, get out of their comfort zone, and enhance their independent practices’ success, according to the company. The conference kicked off with IDOC’s roundtables, which are conversation-driven, small-group sessions where members can interact with their peers, learn from each other’s successes and mistakes, and gain new insights for practice growth.

Friday morning’s general session featured keynote speaker Josh Linkner. He spoke about his “Find a Way” innovation framework that prioritizes creativity and agility to solve everyday problems.

“We are always thrilled to see our attendance grow,” said Dave Brown, IDOC president and CEO. “Having this event allows us to continue to support our members and empower the independent community.”

IDOC’s Sponsor Marketplace hosted more than 60 exhibitors showcasing industry innovations.
IDOC gave attendees an inside look into the new branding for Books & Benchmarks, IDOC’s bookkeeping service, and its new dashboard features in the Benchmark Report. A new portfolio for Optometry Marketing Services was launched, featuring strategies to help practice owners impress, grow, and dominate the market. Members also were invited to participate in live practice check-ins with their practice development managers. These one-on-one discussions facilitate a personalized approach to practice growth by reviewing practice goals, discussing pain points, and finding ways to improve business.

IDOC’s Sponsor Marketplace hosted more than 60 exhibitors showcasing industry innovations. Attendees enjoyed more than 10 hours of networking with vendor sponsors, learning about novel products, and gaining insight into new trends, while capitalizing on IDOC’s programs, discounts, and on-site show specials.

Attendees also took advantage of two full days of informative, educational courses including a variety of continuing education certified classes. Popular courses included hands-on skills workshops, optometry-specific finance discussions, optical planning information, and more.

The “Boots and Bandanas Ball” closed out the event. Attendees danced along with country cover band Gone to Texas and learned how to line dance from professional instructors. Other fun activities included a live caricature artist, carnival games, and a mechanical bull.
