NEW YORK—Eyewear brand Spinoza New York has launched a new optical line Lens for Lens (L4L) by Spinoza in partnership with Alan Glazier, OD, Justin Bazan, OD, Eric Dessner, MD, and John Nguyen, OD.

Lens for Lens means that a portion of the proceeds with the purchase of eyeglasses helps pay for an intraocular lens implant that restores sight at the time of cataract surgery in underserved communities. When an eyecare professional purchases a box of 10 frames from them, L4L by Spinoza donates 10 percent of the profit to its non-profit partners Orbis International or Christian Eye Ministry led by Dr. Don Budenz. They use 100 percent of the donations for cataract surgeries in countries such as Ghana, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, India and Peru. Additionally, Dr. Eric Dessner provides pro bono, comprehensive eye exams for each of the first 50 opening orders of 10 frames, the company said.

Founded by Silja Kim, Spinoza has been providing lightweight and flexible sunglasses for modern consumers since 2015. L4L by Spinoza shares this same minimal design and high-tech materials such as medical-grade plastic, memory metal and titanium. Additionally, each of the frames are named after the locations that their non-profit partners provide cataract surgeries and training for local medical staff. The cases each have a card inside that provides the customer with information on how their non-profit partners use their donation.

Kim said, “These genius materials inspired me to jump into the eyewear business three years ago. Then since six months ago when Spinoza started donating for cataract surgeries in Ghana, the pictures of patients we could help drove me to push forward. I wanted to share this precious feeling with more consumers. I needed to collaborate with eyecare professionals to help people avoid blindness.”
