ROCHESTER, N.Y.— Rochester Optical has secured a safety rating for its Smart Safety Shield for Google Glass, becoming the first optical manufacturer offering safety solutions for Glass. The shield passed ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2010 to meet the rating of Z87+, Rochester Optical reported.

“This is absolutely tremendous news, not just for us as a company, but for the optical industry globally,” said Patrick Ho, CEO of Rochester Optical. “Robust safety standards and excellent quality are absolutely non- negotiable priorities for us, so securing the Z87+ rating… sends out a clear and loud message, particularly to resellers, app developers and enterprise customers—the optics industry is ready to join the smart eyewear revolution.”

Tim Moore, CMO and director of wearable technologies at Rochester Optical, added, "With the safety standard in place, the opportunities for smart eyewear in enterprise are endless. Safety is the missing piece for many companies when it comes to using wearable technology in the workplace, and we’re excited to close the loop and offer both safety and Rx solutions.”
