ALAMEDA, Calif.—The Primary Eyecare Network (PEN), a division of ABB Optical Group, will be offering eyecare practitioners seven educational opportunities this September.

On Sept. 7, PEN is offering a webinar titled HIPPA Review for 2016 that will review current HIPPA requirements, provide an update on audit findings and outline the training required by providers and their staff. The webinar starts at 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. PDT and will be led by certified professional coder Ann Bina of CS Eye, an optical billing and compliance firm. It’s free for PEN member and $15 for non-members.

Led by Blair Lonsberry, OD, Legends of the Posterior Segment will take place on Sept. 7 at 2220 Front S, Sacramento, Calif. On Sept. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. and at 1401 N Shoreline Blvd, Mountain View, Calif. from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This free presentation will use the latest interactive technology in conjunction with other diagnostic tools to review a wide variety of common posterior segment conditions in a case-based format. The class is approved by the Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE) for two hours of continuing education credit.

Art of Retailing will be presented by Alessandro Baronti of Luxottica on Sept. 14, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. PST. This webinar will focus on how to capture consumers’ attention, engage customers on an emotional level and create a unique shopping experience to increase sales. It will be free for PEN members and $15 for non-members.

Led by Mary Schmidt, ABOC, CPO, Confidence in Selling will teach participants techniques to confidently sell products and services. The course will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sept. 15 at 100 W Glenoaks Blvd, Glendale, Calif. The cost is $95 for PEN members and $120 for non-members. It is approved by the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) for two hours of continuing education credits.

Mary Schmidt will also lead Lens Selection without Guesswork on Sept. 15 at the same address from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The cost will also be $95 for PEN members and $120 for non-members and this course is also ABO-approved for two hours of continuing education credits.

Human resources expert Kathy Kennady of JMA, a professional employer organization for small-to-medium sized businesses, will lead the Firing Employees webinar. It will take place on Sept. 21, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. PST free of charge for PEN members and $15 for non-members. The webinar will cover the meaning of at-will employment and employee rights.
