ARLINGTON, Va.— The Health Care Alliance for Patient Safety (Alliance) — an organization founded earlier this year to defend and advocate for the doctor-patient relationship — announced Tuesday that Sightbox is the newest member of the organization. Sightbox, a unit of Johnson & Johnson Vision, joins the Alliance as an associate member. “We know that there is no replacement for a qualified eyecare professional, and that the best quality eyecare can only happen through a strong doctor-patient relationship,” Sightbox chief executive officer Travis Rush said in the announcement. “That is why we are proud to join the Alliance in helping to ensure that nothing gets in the way of high quality eyecare for patients.”

Sightbox, an online, membership-based subscription service for contact lens wearers in the U.S., was acquired by Johnson & Johnson Vision in September 2017, as VMAIL reported. Sightbox members receive an annual eye exam and fitting, along with a 12-month supply of contact lenses.

“The Alliance is excited to welcome Sightbox as an associate member,” Alliance chair Deanna Alexander, OD, said in the announcement. “Sightbox recognizes the importance of comprehensive eyecare and preserving the doctor patient relationship so our patients continue to receive the highest quality eyecare.”

The Alliance was formed earlier this year with support from the American Optometric Association (AOA), as VMAIL reported. J&J Vision joined the alliance as a “leadership” and charter member, with CooperVision Inc. joining as an “associate” and charter member at that time. VSP Global subsequently joined as a “leadership” member of the Alliance.
