CALGARY—FYidoctors, a leading Canadian eyecare company, has appointed two new members to its board of directors: IBM Canada president Dino Trevisani and Dr. Winston Koo, one of the original founders of the company.

Dino Trevisani
The appointments were announced following the company’s 2017 annual general meeting, according to a FYidoctors statement. Trevisani, a longtime executive with IBM, brings diverse leadership experience to the board. In addition, he is “passionate about helping Canadian organizations, both large and small, use innovative technology to transform their businesses and realize their full potential,” the statement noted.

“There is no doubt [that] data, technology and omni-channel retailing will play a big role in how our industry unfolds,” FYidoctors president and chief executive officer Dr. Alan Ulsifer said in the statement. “Having a proven leader and entrepreneur like Dino helping shape our strategy will be incredibly valuable.”

Trevisani holds Masters of Business Administration degrees from both Queen’s School of Business and Cornell’s Johnson School of Management. He also serves on the board of the Conference Board of Canada and the Canadian Business/Higher Education Council (BHER).

Dr. Winston Koo
Koo, at the time of helping to launch FYidoctors, played a leading role in developing strategies around private label frames, vendor relations and board management, according to the announcement. He also has established two successful downtown Toronto locations and has been “instrumental in FYidoctors becoming the country’s largest provider of eyecare and eyewear,” the statement noted.

Koo is a graduate of the University of Waterloo. He holds a certificate in the management and treatment of ocular disease from Northeastern State University. In addition, Dr. Koo has served on numerous advisory boards and panels for the contact lens and laser eye surgery industries.

“Our very first practice in Ontario to join FYidoctors was Winston’s, and he was deeply involved in developing our supply chain in those early days,” Ulsifer said. “He has an in-depth knowledge of our company and its operations and he will be a tremendous addition to our diverse and dynamic board.”

FYidoctors is a private, optometrist-owned and operated eyecare company with more than 450 optometrists servicing 260-plus locations between corporately owned and Vision Source Canada locations.
