CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.—ABB Optical Group, a leading optical products distributor and resource for identifying market trends, reported earlier this month that its data indicates that daily disposable contact lenses “dominated market share from January through September 2017.”

The data collected by ABB Optical represent “organic practice growth, or same-store sales,” within ABB Optical Group’s portfolio, and this data indicated in the recent nine-month period that:

• Dollar growth of soft contact lenses was up 7.4 percent, fueled by the daily disposable modality, which grew nearly 20 percent.

• Daily disposables captured a market share of 44 percent compared with the declining two-week modality, which is at 21 percent.

• Dollar growth of multifocal lenses increased 15 percent and dollar growth of toric lenses rose 11 percent in the January-September period.

“The great news is that contact lenses are growing at a healthy rate and we are seeing additional momentum as we move into Q4,” ABB Optical Group vice president of marketing Aaron See said in the company’s announcement. “Investments in technology and increasing innovation will only broaden the opportunities for ECPs. We look forward to making sure that they have the business insights they need to continue growing their practices.”

ABB Optical Group distributes optical products in the U.S. and supplies nearly two-thirds of eyecare professionals across the country with brand name contact lenses, fully customizable gas permeable and custom specialty soft contact lenses, ophthalmic lenses and more, according to its announcement.
