Coburn Technologies Introduces HPE-8000X

Product: Coburn HPE-8000X
Top Line: The HPE-8000X “Exxpert Edger” is the successor to current model HPE-8000 and provides several new features and advancements.
Close Up: With the updated HPE-8000X, Coburn has implemented several new features, including “step bevel cutting” that assures the lens will fit precisely into high-wrap sunglasses even with special shape cuttings (such as ventilation holes), and 11 different lens edge finishes, providing more options for different jobs. Edge finishes include step bevel, standard bevel, rimless, grooving, mini bevel, asymmetric bevel, U-bevel, partial bevel, partial grooving, dual grooving and hybrid grooving. The HPE-8000X features an adaptive swivel chuck to clamp the lens more evenly, thus eliminating lens slippage, and “axial roughing,” which prevents the lens from rotating on the wheel until the thickest part of the lens is removed. The updated model also permits direct import of DCS job files, including frame shape, FPD, finishing style, lens material, drill coordinates and more. Also, store and maintain these files in folder format, removing all concerns of file duplication. The unit features retouch support back-up (saving up to the last three retouch jobs) and frame shape modification with R/L shape-switching, R/L shape-mirroring and free modification by the digital pattern mode – performed by directions, ratio, rotation and partial edition. The high performance wheel design offers enhanced speed, higher polish quality and much easier wheel maintenance for polishing.
Vital Stats: The option of six different edging positions help provide more choices when matching lens and frame eye wire geometry. Positions include auto, manual, base curve (absolute), percent, front offset and rear offset.

Eyenuk Announces CE Mark and Commercial Launch of EyeArt 2.0

Product: EyeArt 2.0
Top Line: The EyeArt 2.0 fully automated diabetic retinopathy screening software has clinically demonstrated over 90 percent in both sensitivity and specificity, and will launch in leading eyecare centers in Europe over the next few months.
Close Up: EyeArt 2.0 provides fully automated DR screening in one short office visit, including imaging, grading, and reporting for DR in accordance with internationally recognized standards, such as the International Clinical Diabetic Retinopathy Disease Severity Scale (ICDR). The commercial launch is supported by a new study of the EyeArt 2.0 technology, which demonstrated 98.3 percent sensitivity in identifying potentially treatable patients with severe non-proliferative or proliferative DR, and/or the presence of surrogate markers for CSME. In the study, the overall screening sensitivity for detecting referable DR patients was 91 percent (95 percent CI: 90.5 percent - 91.6 percent) with specificity of 90.8 percent (95 percent CI: 0.957-0.961). The study was presented on June 25 at the EASDec 2016 Meeting.
Vital Stats: EyeArt 2.0 has been tested on one of the largest data sets of patient cases of any available DR screening technology, in demanding, real-world settings using images captured in everyday practice. The technology is designed to be flexible, and to work effectively with a variety of imaging protocols used in screening setups.
