Luxottica Celebrates 75 Years of Ray-Ban with Ambermatic Limited Edition Capsule Collection

More Images
Quick Take:
In honor of the brand’s 75th anniversary, Luxottica has introduced the Ray-Ban Ambermatic 2012 Limited Edition capsule collection.
Specifics: Four aviator style sunglasses re-interpreted with a legendary lens color from the brand’s archives.
Selling Points: Honoring its 75th anniversary, Ray-Ban re-introduces Ambermatic lens featured in four iconic shapes; the Ray-Ban Classic Aviator, Ray-Ban Classic Aviator with curved temple tips, Ray-Ban Shooter and Ray-Ban Outdoorsman. In 1937, the first Ray-Ban aviator sunglass was introduced. The style remains unchanged with its classic tear-drop shape, whose design is basic in approach yet innovative in its timeless appeal. For over 75 years, the aviator has been coveted by new generations that seek to reinterpret the style and make it their own, drawing inspiration from mavericks before them. Lenses, and their quality, have always been a key to success throughout the history of Ray-Ban, said the company. Ambermatic is a special yellow lens that darkens depending on light and temperature conditions. By transitioning from yellow to brown, the lens technology blocks glare and highlight outlines and shapes, even in the snow.

Oliver Peoples Bows Limited Edition Collection for 25th

More Images
Quick Take:
Found in 1986, Oliver Peoples has announced a special edition collection in celebration of the brand’s 25th year anniversary.
Specifics: One optical style, the XXV-RX, and one sunglass, the XXV-S, in an exclusive color assortment.
Selling Points: With the 25th anniversary approaching, Larry Leight, Oliver Peoples founder and creative director, combed his personal archive of frames, catalogs and design notes and came across a long forgotten sketch. Dated 1989, the sketch was drawn just 2 years after the original Oliver Peoples collection debuted. “I remember when I drew these,” said Leight. “I always loved them, but they just weren’t right for our collection at that time. These frames just felt a little more modern then what we were doing back then. In celebration of the 25 year anniversary I wanted to dig back into our heritage. I wanted it to be new for our consumer but still remain true to our roots. My rediscovery of these designs encompass exactly that.” The special edition frames, XXV-RX and XXV-S, feature strong plastic frame fronts fused with intricately filigreed metal details. The hinge features a custom scroll engraved design and the modified paddle temple is adorned with an arrow plaque used for the first time on an Oliver Peoples frame. Both the optical and sun versions will be offered in modern neutral and classic tortoises along with a special grey option to represent silver, a traditional 25th year celebration color. The sunglass style will be available with VFX Polarized, Photochromic or Mineral Glass lenses. A custom case, inspired by cases used in the first 1987 collection, is debossed with the original Oliver Peoples plaque and completes the anniversary package.
