Johnson & Johnson Bows ‘Define’ Enhancement CL

More Images
Quick Take: Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. has debuted 1-Day Acuvue Define contact lenses with Lacreon Technology, which the company defines as a new category of eye enhancement contact lenses that accentuate natural beauty while helping to support a healthy eye.
Specifics: The new contact lens’ iris-inspired designs combine an outer darker limbal ring, to enhance definition by creating contrast between the iris and sclera, with an inner translucent light-effects pattern, to add depth and definition without changing the eye’s natural color. Limbal rings are associated with a healthy and youthful appearance because people are more attracted to those with pronounced limbal rings, according to independent research (“ Preliminary Evidence that the Limbal Ring Influences Facial Attractiveness,”  Evolutionary Psychology, 2011) Being introduced in three styles (Natural Sparkle, Natural Shimmer, and Natural Shine), 1-Day Acuvue Define will be available in plano and vision correction ranges from +1.00 to -9.00 with a base curve of 8.5 and diameter 14.2mm.
Selling Points: “It is not a colored contact lens,” said Millicent Knight, OD, head of professional affairs, JJVCI, U.S. “Colored contact lenses usually have opaque and pixelated, patterns that mask the natural beauty of the eye. 1-Day Acuvue Define offers subtle, natural-looking enhancement that allows the beauty of the eye to shine through.” Already the number-one beauty contact lens in Asia, according to the company, Define is now available at a limited number of independent eyecare professionals’ offices in the U.S., with expanded product availability to follow in the first half of 2015. The performance of 1-Day Acuvue Define is similar to the 1-Day Acuvue Moist brand (the number one selling daily disposable lens in the world) on comfort, health and vision parameters, according to a statement released by JJVCI.
