Kenmark Launches Original Penguin Youth Eyewear

View Image
Quick Take: Kenmark, along with Perry Ellis International Inc., has launched the Original Penguin Youth eyewear collection.
Wearer: The new segment of the companies’ established Original Penguin by Munsingwear eyewear line includes eight of the top-selling styles sized down to fit boys aged 8 to 14.
Specifics: Original Penguin Youth eyewear stays true to the brand’s heritage with throwback styling, modern fitting techniques and one-of‐a-kind detailing. Its iconic look is spread across the eight styles with offerings in both metal and acetate materials. Sizes range from 45 to 48 to fit boys who are smaller in size but have big style, Kenmark said.
Selling Points: “When presented the option, many kids want to emulate the style of their older siblings and parents,” said Jason Wehlage, Kenmark product designer. “I wanted to create styles addressing the lack of grown‐up eyewear in today’s youth segment, and as a parent, frames I would seek out for my children to wear.” Added Mike Cundiff, Kenmark CEO, “We are excited to release the Original Penguin Youth collection. The Original Penguin line has been hugely successful for us and we think opticians and customers alike will welcome these popular, smaller styles into their product mix.”

Shamir Duo, a New Generation of Bifocal Lens

View Image
Quick Take: Shamir Insight is launching its first bifocal, Shamir Duo. The lens features a patent-pending Freeform design that offers surface continuity, eliminating the visible line that is associated with flat-top bifocals, providing the patient with improved optics.
Wearer: Bifocal wearers. The image jump created by the visible dividing line in flat-tops results in loss of image. With Shamir Duo, a natural, distortion-free path is maintained as the eye moves from one vision zone to another, resulting in enhanced vision and comfort and improved aesthetics.
Specifics: Shamir Duo is available in a 15mm fitting height in the following materials: 1.5 Hard Resin, DLC Trivex, 1.56, 1.60 SuperLite, 1.67 SuperLite, Polyplus, and 1.74 SuperLite. Shamir Duo is available through Shamir’s network of Autograph partner laboratories.
Selling Points: Processed with Freeform equipment, Shamir Duo lends itself to a variety of materials, tints and coatings. Unlike flat-top bifocals, Shamir Duo is available in a wide selection of indexes and treatments such as high-index materials, photochromic, polarized lenses, as well as tints that allow Duo to be used as both an indoor and outdoor solution.

Face a Face Introduces New Men’s Collection, Alium

More Images
Quick Take: Face a Face has introduced the Alium ophthalmic collection for men featuring aluminum frame fronts.
Specifics: Cut from aluminum, a metal twice as light as titanium, the Alium frame fronts are paired with flex temples, assembled with exclusive parts that feature both a unique elasticity and a soft but firm fit on the face, Face a Face said.
Selling Points: The development of the aluminum fronts resulted in a technical challenge that the company solved by creating a vent in the side piece which allows for adjustment of the frame to the face. Stylistically, the spirit of the Alium collection is very sporty with sharp lines and folded side pieces. Marchon Unveils Valentino Rouge Absolute Sun Style

Individuality is at the center of Valentino designers, Maria Grazia Chuiri and Pierpaolo Piccoli’s, stylistic approach this season as they believe that personal paths within the Valentino repertoire define authentic and multifaceted modernity, according to the maison. As such, accessories become an extension and representation of personality and self-assertiveness. Part of the special capsule Rouge Absolute Signature, Marchon has introduced an iconic sunglass shape characterized by three removable studs available in three special combinations of red tones; Valentino red, scarlet and rubin. Customization is also a key feature of this style with a left temple that can be personalized by adding letters and symbols; 26 English letters and eight symbols are available separately to create a unique signature look. www.marchon.com

Theo ‘The Bridges of Antwerp’ Collection

Theo adores its hometown of Antwerp and finds it to be a great source of inspiration. Royers, Nassau and Siberia are three of the city’s bridges which the brand has now immortalized as eyewear. The "Antwerp Bridges" collection combines acetate, stainless steel and nylor in a unique way. The stainless steel core is enveloped in acetate. The temples stay flexible thanks to the flex-system developed in-house and flow seamlessly in a single line. Just like a bridge, these glasses look heavy on the top but open and airy on the bottom. Each model is available in eight subdued colors. www.theo.be

Morel Presents the Oga Talvac II Group

Morel has released the Oga Talvac II group, adding two full-rimmed metal models to the original semi-rimless Talvac family. Full-rimmed stainless steel frame fronts are paired with handcrafted acetate temples for a unique, but timeless design, the company said. The texture, which defines the concept, is inspired by Scandinavian furniture where layers of material produce unique effects. The Talvac temple, made from two-tone triple-layered acetate, is milled to reveal a second layer in a contrasting color and then textured using laser technology. The integrated end piece hides the cam return spring-hinge system and acts as the link between the temple and frame fronts. Each of the two new Talvac II models is offered in three colors each. www.morel-france.com
