NEW YORK—On June 6, both the optical industry and the wider world celebrated National Eyewear Day. Founded in 2016 when Zyloware submitted it to the Registrar at National Day Calendar, National Eyewear Day falls on June 6 every year and is dedicated to bringing awareness to comprehensive eye exams and overall eye health. Zyloware heads up the celebrations each year, offering a variety of free resources to help everyone get involved. This weekend we’re taking a look at how people celebrated this special industry holiday—both within and outside the industry itself. From influencers and celebrities to ODs and opticians, National Eyewear Day took center stage earlier this week.

Transitions Optical Announces Winners of the Transitions Innovation Awards During Ceremony at the 25th Transitions Academy

ORLANDO, Fla.—Transitions Optical Inc. announced the winners of its annual Transitions Innovation Awards during the closing ceremony here at the 25th Transitions Academy meeting. The awards recognize both individuals and companies for their innovative efforts to support Transitions lenses. More than 850 people representing many countries attended the event at the J.W. Marriott Grande Lakes. “Honoring this incredible group of Transitions Innovation Awards winners and finalists was a perfect way to round off our 25th anniversary celebration of Transitions Academy,” said Drew Smith, director, North America channels, Transitions Optical.

Independents Celebrate Pride With Color, Donations and Excitement

NEW YORK—June is officially here, which also means Pride Month has arrived. Spanning the whole month of June in honor of the Stonewall Uprising, which began in June 1969 in New York City, Pride Month is a time to “recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally and internationally,” the Library of Congress reports. Pride means something different to everyone, and people celebrate it differently everywhere. For many, Pride is a combination of celebration—parades, parties, and more—and community—supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community who might not have support from their loved ones.
