Searching for Fresh Answers to The Question: Why Are Glasses So Expensive?

How often has this happened to you? You’re relaxing with friends or family, and someone shows up wearing a new pair of glasses. Naturally, you  say something like, “Those new glasses look great on you.” They reply, “Thanks. I paid a lot for them, so they better look good.” Then there’s a short pause, followed by what I call The Question: “Why are glasses so expensive?” I usually take a deep breath before responding. Then I give this little speech: “A nice looking, well-made pair of eyeglasses is one of the most important items you can own. It’s the result of a lot of research and development, manufacturing expertise and, often, craftsmanship.” I’ve been giving my speech for a long time and I wanted to freshen it up, so I asked some of my optical friends how they respond when asked The Question. Optometry’s Next Generation Celebrates Graduation

NEW YORK—With summer on the horizon and the school year wrapping up, graduation season is in full swing. This year’s graduations are not quite the same as they used to be, with many ceremonies still taking place virtually or with capacity caps, but the accomplishment of finishing school and getting that diploma is just as worthy of celebration as it has always been. Across the country, many optometry schools wrapped up this May, and many new ODs headed to Instagram to celebrate their incredible accomplishment. At the same time, many college graduates across the country are gearing up for their next step: optometry school. This week, we’re taking a look at some of those new faces in optometry.
