5 Takeaways From Vision Expo East

NEW YORK—Think of it, just one week ago today many of us were in the thick of it at Vision Expo East. It was a very busy three days crammed with appointments, show floor events, celebrity sightings and parties that stretched into the night. Show organizers deemed this year’s Vision Expo East “a great success with Expo experiencing an overall attendance increase of 2.6 percent with a 5 percent rise in registration for optical buyers.” As always at Vision Expo there was a lot to take in and there were many events to attend and opportunities to network and connect. In my book, WestGroupe gets the prize for most unusual booth giveaway. The company created a novel way for attendees to get some down time—a hot shave and, if they wanted, a haircut from Barber Bonzy. Pictured here, one lucky showgoer got the treatment from Barber Bonzy. Read on for some select highlights from the show.

It Takes Two: BFFs Shreya Bhandari and Lara Bregman are Tackling Instagram Together

Shreya Bhandari and Lara Bregman are second year optometry students at the Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry. The pair originates from Toronto and while both went to the University of Western Ontario for undergrad, it wasn’t until they moved to the States that they connected and became friends. “It’s kind of a funny story actually. Lara and I attended the University of Western Ontario but we did not know each other,” Bhandari explained. “We first met at our optometry school interview at Salus in Pennsylvania. We instantly connected and spent the entire interview day chatting. When Lara saw that I joined the Nova incoming class of 2021 Facebook group, she reached out to me and we have been best friends ever since.”
