NEW YORK—This Friday, March 8, the world celebrated International Women’s Day. Each year, we dedicate the month of March to honoring women, and March 8, in particular, to remembering the women who’ve paved the way before us. International Women’s Day was marked officially for the first time in 1911, and, since then, has been celebrated every year. It is a recognized public holiday in many countries, including Belarus, Cuba, Nepal and Ukraine, among many others. This International Women’s Day, there was a lot to celebrate in the optical community, and many doctors, students, eyewear brands, stores and other members of our community took to social media to celebrate International Women’s Day.

NEW YORK—The Vision Monday Global Leadership Summit is deepening its focus on consumer trends and behavior as experts in retailing, health care and branding join the day-long program. The live exclusive event, titled, “Decoding the Consumer: The New Science of Customer Behavior,” will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Times Center here, just prior to Vision Expo East. Several new speakers have been added to the Summit program. The most recent additions include Dave Bovenschulte, vice president, strategy for Klick Health; Amy Heymans (Cueva), founder and chief experience officer at Mad*Pow; and Karl Haller who leads IBM’s Consumer Industry Center of Competency. Jewell Ginter, OD, is no stranger to remodels, renovations and relocations for Ginter Eyecare Center in Lubbock, Texas. “Our old office was well-used,” she said of her second office location. That space went through four remodels and expansions in the years since she moved there with her five employees in 1997 from her original location in a mall, which opened in 1982. Early this year, Dr. Ginter and the team—now four full-time doctors and 20 staff members—moved five blocks away on the same street to a new, expansive location. “We actually purchased the vacant land 12 years ago with the intent of constructing the building to move our practice with also extra space for leasing,” Dr. Ginter explained.
