During the fourth quarter of 2020, Jobson Optical Research polled nearly 300 eyecare professionals from around the U.S. to learn more about their attitudes and behaviors regarding myopia management. The results are both encouraging and disappointing. Seven in ten (70.1 percent) surveyed said their practices provide myopia management services, but three in ten (29.9 percent) said their practices do not offer myopia care for children. There is good reason to slow the progression of myopia. Once considered a simple refractive error with few, if any, long-term eye health consequences, myopia increases the risk of serious, sight-threatening complications later in life, including retinal detachment, myopia macular degeneration, and glaucoma.
