Auston Davis.

BALTIMORE—Versant Health, a managed vision care company and wholly-owned subsidiary of MetLife, has named Auston Davis as chief information security officer (CISO), effective June 27. Davis has extensive experience serving in information security leadership roles over the past three decades and understands the importance of IT security for any company, particularly health plans and managed care organizations, according to the recent Versant Health announcement. Most recently, he served as CISO at HeartFlow, where he led global security strategy and operations and drove risk management. Previously, he served as CISO at Stanford Children’s Health, deputy CISO at Kaiser Permanente, and director of global threat response and investigations for Symantec.

Davis also has extensive knowledge of strict regulatory requirements and how they impact security, plus a keen ability to creatively consider how IT security impacts all business functions, Versant Health said.

“The wealth of knowledge Auston brings from his security sector experience is invaluable to Versant Health,” said Dan Dunkers, Versant Health’s chief information officer. “We look forward to Auston driving critical projects and initiatives that enhance our company’s security practices and support a collective security-focused company culture.”

Davis is a 23-year veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserves, where he held multiple computer crime and security roles. He holds a master’s degree in CIS-Cybersecurity from Boston University and currently teaches as an adjunct professor at San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif.
