MINNETONKA, Minn.—UnitedHealthcare has been awarded a seven-year contract to provide dental and vision benefits through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). This voluntary, enrollee-pay-all dental and vision program is administered by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and is available to federal employees and annuitants, certain retired uniformed service members and active duty family members, according to an announcement this week. UnitedHealthcare dental and vision benefit plans will be available to FEDVIP eligible enrollees beginning Jan. 1, 2021, following an open enrollment season running from Nov. 9 to Dec. 14, 2020.

FEDVIP enrollees already had access to UnitedHealthcare vision plans, which have been a coverage option for more than a decade.

“With more than 13 million dental and 20 million vision existing members, UnitedHealthcare brings a deep commitment and understanding of people’s oral and eye health needs,” Tom Wiffler, chief executive officer, UnitedHealthcare Specialty Benefits, said in the announcement. “Our team members are dedicated to helping people live healthier lives and making the health system work better for everyone, and we look forward to delivering outstanding customer service and providing access to quality dental and vision care to individuals enrolled in FEDVIP.”

There are approximately 6.9 million people enrolled in FEDVIP, including many individuals eligible for both dental and vision plans. By selecting UnitedHealthcare during the upcoming open season, the enrollees will have access to quality customer service, extensive vision and dental provider networks, discount programs and useful health and wellness products and services, the announcement noted.
