PARIS—Silmo Singapore, ASEAN Optical Fair, was held from April 12-14, 2023 at Suntec Singapore Exhibition and Convention Centre. Jointly organized by Silmo International and MP Singapore, the show welcomed over 250 international and local brands from over 15 countries representing most product families and ranges in the optics and eyewear industry. Organizers reported that 2,175 professional visitors, optometrists, dispensing opticians and buying groups had the opportunity to browse the latest eyewear, optical products and technologies, according to an announcement.

With 50 percent of its attendance from overseas, Silmo Singapore's first edition "confirmed its ambition to become the new business meeting place in Southeast Asia." The top five of the 44 represented countries were Malaysia, China, Australia, Vietnam and Indonesia.

The exhibition featured three unique spaces that aim to explore future trends and innovation in the eyewear and eyecare sector—FUTUROLOGY, Silmo Trends and Silmo Talks.

FUTUROLOGY examined the theme of techno-responsibility through the lens of innovations and trends that will gradually shape the future of optics and eyewear. Silmo Trends showcased the trends and novelties in 2023 and how design is shaped by our environment and society while Silmo Talks delved into best practices, sustainability and Optics Special Interest Groups.

Silmo Academy, a conference platform that was held concurrently with the exhibition and targeted mainly at optometrists and opticians, provided an opportunity for the participants to garner key insights and best practices from renowned experts across the globe. The two-day scientific symposium explored topics such as Myopia Management, Lifestyle and Ophthalmic Practice, and Primary Care. The Academy program was curated by the International Opticians Association (IOA).

In its announcement about the first Silmo Singapore, Silmo's organizers also noted the upcoming events: Silmo Showroom, to take place on the banks of the Douro in Port on May 16 and on the banks of the Vltava/Moldau in Prague on June 4.

The next Silmo Paris edition is planned for Sept. 29-Oct. 2 in Paris. In November, the 10th anniversary of Silmo Istanbul will be celebrated Nov. 23-24.
