Richard Chapman
GREEN BAY, Wis.—Shopko Optical, the 80-location optical retailer based here, has named Richard Chapman to its leadership team as vice president of sales. Chapman joins the company with more than 20 years of experience in both multi-store retail leadership and optical retail. As vice president of sales, Chapman will lead the retail sales efforts of Shopko Optical’s centers to deliver excellent customer service and patient care, according to an announcement this week from the company.

“We are thrilled to add Richard’s talent and experience to our leadership team,” chief executive officer Russ Steinhorst said in the announcement. “He is a proven retail veteran with a track record of developing high-performing teams.”

Steinhorst also noted that Chapman will be “a great complement to our tenured store leadership team, and I am confident he will inspire a new vision as we continue to build on our foundation of outstanding patient care, service, and commitment to the communities we serve.”

Prior to joining Shopko Optical, Chapman served as chief operating officer and managing partner at Corner of the Sky, LLC where he established goals and procedures to improve guest satisfaction, sales, profit margins and market share.

Earlier, he served as regional vice president for the central U.S. region, at Visionworks of America, and he oversaw the optical retail strategic planning, budgeting, and talent development within this operating region.

Chapman also worked at Joann Fabric and Craft Stores for over 15 years, serving as vice president of store development and facilities, vice president of store operations, director of store operations and district manager. He began his career at Homeplace Inc., where he was the director of new store operations.

Chapman is working toward his bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Southern New Hampshire University and is currently a board member of Swish 365. He has affiliations with BuildPoint, Store Planning Equipment Construction Services (SPECS), and Professional Retail Store Maintenance (PRSM), the announcement noted.

Shopko Optical is the trade name of Shoptikal LLC, an affiliate of Monarch Alternative Capital, a private equity firm that acquired the Shopko Optical business out of bankruptcy court in mid-2019.
