NEW YORK—Yesterday, the Accessories Council announced the winners of its second annual Design Excellence Awards via Zoom. The Accessories Council created these Awards in 2019 in order to “expand the recognition of outstanding products across categories as determined by vote.” Categories included handbags, eyewear, footwear, jewelry, personal accessories, tech and innovation, social impact, sustainability and, this year for the first time, PPE. In the eyewear categories, Safilo and Marchon both took home awards. In the optical category, Marchon’s Longchamp took home the award for its Longchamp LO2670L.

Other nominations were: Airlock for the Pure Airlock style, Safilo’s Kate Spade New York for the style Eliana, Raen for style Bowman and Tura’s TuraLE2. In sun, Safilo’s Jimmy Choo was awarded for its Shine/S style. The other nominations were: Big Horn for Salar Zu, L’Amy America’s Champion with the C-Life Hex, McLaren Vision’s McLaren Vision Collection and Victoria Beckham’s VB614S from Marchon. All award nominees being announced earlier this year, as reported by VMAIL.

In addition, Thomas Burkhardt, Marchon’s senior vice president of global brands, marketing and design, presented the 2020 Hall of Fame award to Chuck Taylor All Star’s iconic Converse sneakers.

Winning products were voted on by the public from finalist pools selected by the Accessories Council Board of Directors. Finalists were then chosen based on the criteria of excellence in design, unique appearance and/or function, consumer needs addressed by product, appropriate aesthetics, innovative materials or technology, market positioning and competitive performance, social images, emotional appeal, and sustainability.

Sponsors of the 2020 Design Excellence Awards include QVC/HSN, Adorn, Marchon Eyewear, NY NOW, and Saga Furs. Each of the winners listed above received a trophy designed by Marchon Eyewear.
