CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.—ABB Optical Group, a leading resource for identifying optical industry trends, released market data from its Digital Eye Lab (DEL) Network this week that showed “significant year-over-year growth in the sale of prescription sun lenses,” according to the company’s announcement. DEL Network’s data shows that orders were up 25 percent in 2018 compared with 2017. In breaking down all orders placed in 2018, the data also showed a year-over-year increase of 30 percent for mirrored lenses, 30 percent for photochromic lenses, and 20 percent for polarized lenses, according to ABB Optical’s announcement.

DEL Network also identified silver, blue and gold, respectively, as the three most popular colors ordered in polarized mirrored lenses.

The data is being issued “just in time for National Sunglasses Day on June 27,” according to the announcement.

“Since 2017, our portfolio of digital mirror solutions has allowed ECPs to expand their lens offerings to meet the growing patient demand for this trending, colorful look,” DEL Network managing director Scott Pearl said in the announcement. “With the kickoff of summer right around the corner, now is an opportune time for ECPs to be discussing the importance of sunwear with their patients and offering them a variety of sunwear to meet their needs, lifestyles and budgets.”
