MASON, Ohio–Haag-Streit USA, a leading manufacturer of equipment for the ophthalmic industry, announced that their CO:RE surgical chair, conceived by the product design studio Zukun Plan, has won the Red Dot Award for Product Design 2021. Recognized as one of the international design world’s most prestigious honors, the Red Dot Awards have been presented by Germany’s Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen since 1955. “More companies and design studios have entered this year than ever before,” said Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot. “We received more than 6,500 entries from 60 countries.”

An international panel of 40 expert independent designers, design professors and journalists evaluated the entries for formal quality, innovation, functionality and ecological compatibility. Awards were given in three categories: Product Design, Brands and Communications Design, and Design Concept.

“I’m very delighted and honored that we received the Red Dot Award for CO:RE, as determined by experts in product design, communication design, and design concepts,” said Ernest Cavin, president and CEO of Haag-Streit USA. “Our design-thinking approach involves observing a problem, reframing it, designing solutions, and testing them—all with the end goal of improving how people experience the product. Getting it right is extremely powerful, a real game-changer in the market space.”
