SAN RAMON, Calif.—In support of the education of future eyecare professionals, CooperVision and the National Optometric Association (NOA) have awarded three $1,000 scholarships to exceptional optometry students with a high interest in contact lenses. Scholarship recipients were selected based on their membership in the National Optometric Student Association, their academic standing at their respective optometry schools, and their demonstration of contact lens leadership based on their application essay and faculty recommendations. Announced on June 27 during the Virtual Scholarship Awards ceremony, the 2020 recipients of the Future Contact Lens Leader Scholarships are:

• Christina Huynh, Kentucky College of Optometry
• Jessica Olson Livermont, Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry
• Richard Wan, The Ohio State University College of Optometry

“A commitment to a career in optometry is a commitment to changing lives. It’s exciting to see the passion that this year’s scholarship recipients have for the profession, and specifically for contact lenses,” said Steve Rosinski, OD, senior manager of professional and academic affairs, CooperVision. “We are honored to partner with the NOA to advance their education in this way, and we look forward to seeing the impact that Christina, Jessica, and Richard will make in the years to come.”

The NOA Future Contact Lens Leader Scholarships are awarded annually to up to three qualified optometry students who are entering their third or fourth year of optometry school and also eligible to those entering a contact lens residency program.

Founded in 1969, the National Optometric Association is a not-for-profit organization comprised primarily of minority optometrists from throughout the U.S. It is dedicated to recruiting minority students into the schools and colleges of optometry and assisting in placing new graduates in eyecare practices, as well as advancing the visual health of minority populations through the delivery of effective and efficient eye and vision care services to the minority community.

The NOA currently has more than 800 members, and 18 student associations with more than 700 members.
