Fred Dubick, OD, MBA, FAAO

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The California Optometric Association (COA) announced Fred Dubick, OD, MBA, FAAO, has been named the “Optometrist of the Year.” Dr. Dubick is an optometrist and owner of StudioEyes Optometry with locations in Burbank, Northridge and Sun Valley, Calif. “Dr. Dubick has been a leader in the optometric profession at the state and national level. He has dedicated his life to increasing access to care through legislative advocacy and his volunteerism,” said Dr. David Redman, selection committee chair.

Dr. Dubick’s dedication to the public’s visual welfare spans more than 40 years, including as a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) Disaster Preparation Project Team and as chief of eyecare services for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee.

“It is an honor to have been selected by my colleagues for this prestigious award,” Dr. Dubick said in the announcement. “I look forward to many more years helping to increase awareness of optometry’s value in improving access to health care for underserved populations.”

Graduating with his MBA from the University of Redlands in 2006, Dr. Dubick has had a distinguished career as a doctor of optometry, COA Board of Trustees member, and state board of optometry member. He has also served as chair of the AOA Political Action Committee, is a charter member of the AOA Contact Lens Section and a past president of the California Optometric Association and the San Fernando Valley Optometric Society.

Dr. Dubick’s outstanding leadership in the field of optometry includes being named COA’s 1984 Young Optometrist of the Year and receiving the AOA’s 2013 Advocate of the Year award.

Dr. Dubick attended the University of Maryland, College Park, and received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. Dr. Dubick is married to Dr. Ellen Shuham, an optometrist, and they have three children and two grandchildren.
