BOSTON—The third annual Women In Optometry Women’s Leadership Conference will feature ideas and a hands-on series of short workshop sessions to help attendees transform themselves from “leaders” to “thought leaders.” The conference, titled “Expanding Your Spheres of Influence,” will be held in conjunction with the American Academy of Optometry meeting, Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Keynote speaker Denise Brosseau, sponsored by EssilorLuxottica, CEO of the Thought Leadership Lab and author of the best-seller Ready to Be a Thought Leader?, will deliver a dynamic keynote with workshop sessions to help attendees explore their spheres of influence, whether that sphere is at work, in the community or in advocacy for the profession.

In this session based on her popular courses at Stanford Business School and on LinkedIn Learning, she will share the mindset and skill set that makes a thought leader, including

  • The typical journey from leader to thought leader.
  • Tools, actions and strategies to position yourself as a thought leader and scale your ideas to reach the widest possible audience—online and off.
  • How thought leadership can be deployed as a tool for your own career advancement.
  • Next steps to increase your influence and impact this year.
  • How to avoid pitfalls along the way.
Several current and upcoming leaders in optometry will share how they expand their influence in their communities or on a larger national stage. The conference ends with the presentation of the 2021 Theia Awards of Excellence and a cocktail reception.

WO editor Marjolijn Bijlefeld said, “One element of every WO meeting is to foster the time and opportunity for colleagues to connect, support and inspire each other. Every time we get groups together, it’s exciting to see the breadth and depth of influence that women have in this profession.” The meeting is ideal for optometrists in every career setting, students and those supporting ODs in their roles.

The meeting will be held at the Westin Boston Waterfront. Platinum sponsors of the event are Alcon, Allergan, CooperVision and EssilorLuxottica. Tarsus Pharmaceutical is a supporting sponsor.
