NEW YORK—The national average for gross revenue at ECP locations decreased last week, Nov. 15-21, at a rate of -2 index points, according to Jobson’s most recent Practice Performance Tracker. That brings gross revenue to a level below where it was at this point in time (Week 47) during both 2019 (1 index point below) and last year (7 index points below). Sales decreased in all optical categories when comparing last week with the previous week (Nov. 8-14) at rates ranging from -4 index points for frame units to -1 index point for exams/refractions and contact lenses.

With decreases across the board, all optical sales categories declined in relation to an average week in 2019—the index baseline assigned a value of 100 for this Optical Business Tracker. Gross revenue remains the only category above that benchmark, at 106 index points, while those below that level range from exams/refractions, the closest at 98 index points, to contact lenses, the furthest at 86 index points.

Jobson Optical Research selected 1,500 optical locations that have been operating and reporting their sales to its partners, GPN and ABB Analytics, since 2019. The index has been rebased to an average week in 2019. Going forward, this new index base will be used as an arbitrary benchmark and assigned a value of 100.
