NEW YORK—The national average for gross revenue at ECP locations increased last week, Nov. 8-14, at a rate of 4 index points, according to Jobson’s most recent Practice Performance Tracker. That brings gross revenue to a level of 3 index points above where it was at this point in time (Week 46) during 2019 and 4 index points below where it was during Week 46 of last year. Sales increased in all optical categories, except contact lens, at a rate of 4 index points when comparing last week with the previous week of Nov. 1-7.

Sales of contact lenses remained flat when comparing last week with the previous week. With nearly all other optical sales increasing at a rate of 4 index points last week, gross revenue remains at a level above an average week in 2019—the index baseline assigned a value of 100 for this Optical Business Tracker—while both lens pairs and frame units are only 1 index point below that benchmark. Contact lens sales remain the furthest from an average week in 2019 at 87 index points.

Jobson Optical Research selected 1,500 optical locations that have been operating and reporting their sales to its partners, GPN and ABB Analytics, since 2019. The index has been rebased to an average week in 2019. Going forward, this new index base will be used as an arbitrary benchmark and assigned a value of 100.
