NEW YORK—With December comes an influx of year-end lists: the best movies of the year, the best albums, the best shows, the funniest live TV moments, and on and on and on. These lists are, of course, subjective, but there’s one year-end announcement that is almost impossible to argue against: Pantone’s Color of the Year. This year, Pantone named “Very Peri” its color of the year. The color, a periwinkle with red undertones, “blends the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red,” Pantone wrote.

“We are living in transformative times. As we emerge from an intense period of isolation, our notions and standards are changing. Displaying a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, inquisitive and intriguing PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we re-write our lives. Rekindling gratitude for some of the qualities that blue represents complemented by a new perspective that resonates today, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri places the future ahead in a new light.”

This optimistic periwinkle is a fun, versatile shade, and it’s already been popping up all around the design world, from clothes to interiors to, of course, eyewear. This week, we’re taking a look at some of the ways Very Peri is making a statement in the optical world.
