NEW YORK—There’s no doubt about it: screen time has become more or less unavoidable. While this might not be the best news for eye health, one upside has been recently emerging: the popularity of blue light glasses. Whether you feel strongly about their effectiveness or not, blue light glasses have undeniably become a fashion trend as well as a health device. Online, social media influencers partner with brands to advertise their blue light glasses, and many fashionistas with flawless vision who just love the look of glasses have found blue light to be the perfect compromise. Plus, with Coronavirus cases rising throughout the country and another full lockdown looming, it’s looking like the perfect blue light storm is upon us.

The blue light trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, and this could just be the perfect time for ECPs to jump on the bandwagon if they haven’t already, especially with holiday gift buying rapidly approaching as well. This week we’ll take a look at how some ECPs (and influencers) are marketing blue light to offer some inspiration for your own practice.

The team at Luminance Vision in California shared an image of a patient who chose a fashionable new pair of prescription computer glasses with blue blocking lenses, and explained that there is a difference between store-bought blue blocking lenses and those that an OD can prescribe. Damaris Raymondi, OD, who practices in New York City, uploaded a podcast episode explaining what she tells her patients when they ask about blue light and screen time. Image via newyorkeyedoc on Instagram.

The team at Hicks Brunson Eyewear in Tulsa created a fun, informative video that walks patients through the best blue light lenses for those who also wear prescription glasses. Image via hicksbrunson on Instagram.

At Vision Source Shadow Creek in Pearland, Texas, blue light education is a priority. On Instagram, the team shared an infographic explaining why blue light glasses can be helpful. Image via visionsourceshadowcreek on Instagram.

Influencers can be a great way to market blue light glasses as well. Here, influencer and software engineer Ashley Chloe teams up with EyeBuyDirect for a blue light giveaway. Image via ashley_chloe on Instagram.
