PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.—Black Eyecare Perspective is sharing its support for a number of Black-owned independent eyewear brands and encouraging the optical community to do the same. In a statement, Black Eyecare Perspective said, “There are several independent eyewear brands that are inspired by Black and African American features and cultures and a few that are also Black owned. Black EyeCare Perspective would like more opticals to support independent eyewear they love and connect with.”

In particular, Black Eyecare Perspective spotlights Alexandros, Anwuli Eyewear, CEV Collection, FUBU Frames and Vontélle. Alexandros is handmade in Greece and is the first minority-owned premium magnum eyewear brand. It was established in 2016. Anwuli Eyewear, founded by Nwamaka Ngoddy, OD, in 2019, is designed specifically with African features in mind. Anwuli is an Igbo name that means joy. NFL linebacker Jaylon Smith and Jamal Robinson co-founded CEV collection, an acronym that stands for Clear Eye View.

Fubu Frames by Eye Candy Creations USA features distinctive design details, contrasting colors and dynamic, lightweight designs. The brand offers custom solutions for every face. Finally, Vontélle was founded by Tracey Vontélle Green and Nancey Harris in 2019, to satisfy the demand for better fitting vibrant, luxury eyewear. Each frame is designed to pay homage to the founders’ African, Caribbean and Latin ancestry, featuring traditional colors and patterns. In addition, Vontélle frames feature wider bridges, longer temples and larger lenses for high cheekbones.
