Santinelli Intros Streamlined Version of Award-Winning Edger

Product:
Me 900 edger
Top Line: Santinelli International is introducing the Me 900, a streamlined, simplified and more economical version of its Me 1200 Multifunction Edger, which won the SILMO d’Or Award in 2010. The Me 900 offers the same quality and much of the same technology as its “big brother,” yet at a more economical cost-of-ownership level.
Close Up: The new unit features the identical 3-D drilling, 3-D grooving and advanced shape editor functions as its predecessor. The high precision safety beveling feature is also included. In addition, the Me 900 features a Radius Measurement Unit (RMU) which measures the radius of the lens for proper cut-out and orients the lens for faster processing speed. The unit’s BMW-style “jog-dial” operations provide ease-of-use and precision operation, as does the new graphic design color display.
The addition of the new Me 900 rounds-out and expands the company’s drilling line. Now Santinelli International effectively offers three different drilling edger models with various features and at varying price levels, all available with a multitude of blockers. The end result is that ECPs now have several options to customize a system which will meet their own lab needs and budget.
Vital Stats: As with all other Santinelli drilling models, the Me 900 is available with the optional Click Mode software for processing Chemistrie Magnetic Layered Lens System, providing an additional profit-generating function. A simpler, modified version of the Me 1200’s technology makes the Me 900 a highly valuable addition to finishing labs.

QSpex Intros Rapid 'In-Office' Lens Making System

Product:
QSpex Premium Lens System
Top Line: The QSpex Premium Lens System allows vision care providers to produce top-quality spectacles lenses “in office” in about 35 minutes.
Close Up: Product availability includes single vision, polarized and advanced digital progressive designs, with a high quality, seven layer hydrophobic and oleophobic AR treatment. Photochromic lenses will also be available in second quarter 2012.
The system can provide the practice with significant cost savings compared to lab-surfaced lenses. As CEO Steve Martin explained, “The QSpex System provides each practitioner the ability to deliver premium lens designs with surface treatments to their patients in a time frame not available by any other lens manufacturer or lab, at more attractive profit margins for their practice.” The QSpex Premium Lens System is designed with a small footprint and daily operation of the system is easily learned by office personnel. Training is straightforward and most technicians are able to use the system effectively and efficiently during the first half-day of operation. The actual hands-on time requiring operator attention is about five minutes per pair of lenses, often less time than it currently takes to transmit a lens order to a lab and follow up on patient inquiries. The system utilizes single use, disposable plastic molds, meaning there is no need to clean the molds after use; they are recycled or discarded. Furthermore, no gaskets are required. Each back mold is supplied with a single use pre-attached lens spacer. All lens treatments have been pre-applied onto the molds by QSpex and transfer during lens curing.
Vital Stats: The QSpex Premium Lens System produces lenses in powers that cover 86 percent of prescriptions (-4.25D to +2.00D with cylinder to - 2.00D and Progressive adds of +1.00D to +3.00D, all in 0.25D steps).

Braille Institute Updates VisionSim Mobile App

More Images
Product:
VisionSim Free Mobile App Update
Top Line: Smartphone users will see a new update to the Braille Institute’s popular VisionSim free mobile app in April 2012. The app was developed to allow people with healthy vision to experience the world through the eyes of a person experiencing one of four degenerative eye diseases: macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and cataracts.
Close Up: Users can simulate any of the ten leading eye diseases such as macular degeneration, retinal detachment and retinitis pigmentosa. The development team at the Braille Institute improved the accuracy of how the eye diseases are portrayed by using input from industry experts and doctors. Additionally, more information about each eye disease will be available in the update.
Using touch-screen controls, the user can select one of the four simulators to replicate the symptoms of that particular disease. The application uses the device camera to allow the user to see the world through digital filters simulating the symptoms and experience of the disease. Using sliding touch-screen controls, the user can manipulate the severity of the symptoms. The real-time still images can be saved by the camera and stored for later review in the image gallery, or to be shared. The application also provides basic information on each of the eye diseases including symptoms, causes and treatments. The user can also access Braille Institute's website or contact Braille Institute directly via email for more information.
Vital Stats: The VisionSim app is available for iPhone, iPad and Android phones.
