Block Buying Group Introduces Free-form Lens Series

Quick Take:
The Block Buying Group is introducing iChoice, a competitively priced, proprietary lens series exclusively for its members.
Specifics: The iChoice lens series featuring function-specific progressive and single vision designs is available in virtually all current lens materials, including Transitions. The lenses are designed and manufactured for BBG by Central Optical, a wholesale laboratory and a Block vendor company, based in Youngstown, Ohio. Central Optical designs its proprietary progressive lens products via the GRID System, which stands for General (all purpose), Reading (near tasks), Intermediate (computer, hobbies) and Distance (outdoors).
Selling Points: iChoice series will be featured with in-office collateral materials, such as consumer brochures, counter cards and ad slicks, enabling Block ECPs to do an effective job of marketing these products to their patients. iChoice lenses come with NGLC, a proprietary AR lens treatment.

ClearVision Expands BCBGMaxAzria Eyewear Collection

ClearVision Optical has refined the design direction of BCBGMaxAzria for its Fall 2011 eyewear collection, one of the company’s largest optical launches for the brand to date.
Specifics: Eight new modern styles for women.
Selling Points: The glamorous new design direction is meant to allow the BCBGMaxAzria brand to resonate with a wider audience; as such, the Fall 2011 optical styles are designed with the 22- to 55-year-old fashionable woman in mind. The collection features design details like jewelry-inspired accents of European crystals, chains and pin dots; oversized eye shapes in rich acetate materials; and a fresh, paler palette including lavender, green and pink. ClearVision has developed a series of promotional e-blasts, P.O.P. and in-store marketing materials as well to promote the brand this fall. A comprehensive social campaign including Facebook e-coupons, fashion tips and trends has also planned. In addition, ClearVision is working with BCBGMaxAzria to include optical styles on the BCBG.com consumer website. The top bar navigation placement is aimed toward increasing the visibility of the brand to consumers and the loyal BCBGMaxAzria clientele while inclusion of an optical store locator will direct consumers to where they can purchase the eyewear.

McGee Introduces New Orvis Adventure Series Group

The McGee Group has introduced Outfitters collection from the Orvis Adventure Series, specifically designed for the young adventurer, featuring youthful colors and shapes, as well as rubber infused temple tips to hold frames in place.
Specifics: Four new ophthalmic styles for men.
Selling Points: Orvis believes that being prepared for an outdoor adventure means having the right gear, so McGee has added the Trek, Streamline, Compass and Scope frames to offer style fused with function. The Trek is a full rim metal frame made of Tru-Flex memory metal with adjustable nose pads and acetate temple tips in a modified rectangular shape. The Streamline is a semi-rimless, rectangular frame with spring hinges, adjustable nose pads and acetate temple tips, available in two sizes. The Compass is a full rim metal frame in an oval shape with adjustable nose pads, spring hinges and the laser etching on the temples. Lastly, the Scope is a handmade acetate frame with spring hinges that offers a more retro look, with a modified circular eyeshape. Accounts who purchase the entire Outfitters Collection will receive an Orvis logo plaque.

L’Amy America Bows Columbia Eyewear’s Eco-Acetate

New for Fall 2011, Columbia Eyewear, manufactured by L’Amy, extends its ophthalmic collection with models suited for the active-lifestyle, but designed to have minimal environmental impact for the new “E³” Collection.
Specifics: Three new ophthalmic styles comprising nine total skus.
Selling Points: Columbia Eyewear’s E³ offering of handmade frames are made of q proprietary new acetate which offers a “trifecta” of eco-friendliness; it is recyclable, both the frame and the demo lens are made of non-petrol based acetate (vegetal cellulose diacetate) and the frame is compostable with a breakdown process that emits less C02 into the atmosphere. This new material is created by methods very similar to traditional acetates and works perfectly for handmade designs, allowing for unique and beautiful color execution as well, according to L’Amy. The three new unisex models, Green Mountain, an elongated rectangle; the Mount Diablo, a rounded square and the Iron Mountain, an extra-deep square, all come in three colors each, some with contrasting frame fronts and temples.
