NEW YORK—Instagram is officially starting tests to hide the number of likes on users' images in select countries including Ireland, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand. Instagram first began testing this new feature in Canada in May. According to CNN, an Instagram spokesperson said, "We are testing this because we want your followers to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get." Likes can be closely tied to self esteem issues for many younger people who use Instagram, and they can also impact the businesses of Instagram influencers and celebrities who sell ads on the platform. Instagram says users will still be able to see likes on their own posts, but the number will be hidden from everyone else. Head over to CNN for the full story.
