WASHINGTON—To celebrate National Sunglasses Day on June 27, 2019, The Vision Council took to Capitol Hill to brief congressional staff on the brief Congressional staffers on the importance of UV protection for the eyes. This is part of The Vision Council’s goal to educate the public about vision protection. The aim of the briefing was to educate attendees on the importance of wearing UV-protective eyewear and eye health education. Bridgitte Shen Lee, optometrist and spokesperson for The Vision Council, gave a presentation on the way UV radiation impacts the eyes, the risk factors of not wearing UV-protective eyewear, and what solutions are available for protection.

In addition, attendees were given UV-protective sunwear and encouraged to take a #SunglassSelfie for social media.
