Amazon has announced the timing of its annual Prime Day, which this year will be a two-day shopping festival starting July 15, just after midnight Pacific Time. The retail data and trend analysts at Coresight Research compiled some key facts about this popular event, now in its fifth year:

  • The 48-hour Prime Day will be the longest Prime Day sale so far, up from the 36-hour Prime Day in 2018.
  • Prime Day 2019 will feature more than one million deals globally, including what the company says will be “the biggest deals ever” on Amazon Music, Prime Video, and Alexa-enabled devices. Discounts will also be available at Whole Foods Market.
  • Prime members from 18 countries worldwide can participate in the sale, including the United Arab Emirates (new this year).
  • For the first time, members can shop deals from U.S.-based innovators, artisans and entrepreneurs, and entertainment events and celebrity brand collaborations add excitement to the event.
Coresight reported that Jeff Wilke, Amazon CEO Worldwide Consumer, said Amazon’s vision is to let Prime Day “be the absolute best time for consumers to enjoy shopping, savings, entertainment and some of the best deals Prime members have ever seen.”

More than one million deals will be available worldwide, equal to last year, according to Coresight. Prime Day will also be in physical stores, with “deep discounts” on selected products at Whole Foods Market. And, Whole Foods will offer an extra 10 percent off the prices of “hundreds” of products. Special offers will also be available at Amazon Books and Amazon 4-Star locations.

This Prime Day, Amazon is allowing members to shop from U.S.-based innovators, artisans and entrepreneurs. Last Prime Day, small and medium-sized businesses selling in Amazon’s online stores surpassed $1.5 billion in sales.
Amazon continues to reveal collaborations with actors, musicians, athletes and top brands. For instance, Nickelodeon will launch 24 new JoJo Siwa products to Prime members only. Levi’s has teamed up with Pro Football Player Sterling Shepard and model Chanel Iman Shepard to customize jeans. Amazon Fashion is also working with Hanna Anderson to create organic cotton products for babies and toddlers.

Last year, more customers signed up for Prime membership during the first day of Prime Day than on any previous day in Amazon history, as explained in Coresight Research’s Amazon Prime Day 2018 Wrap-Up. Generating new Prime membership subscriptions is a major objective of Prime Day. Amazon Prime now has approximately 101 million subscribers in the U.S., according to Coresight.

In a recent survey from RetailMeNot, 200 senior marketing leaders and 1,000 consumers revealed key back-to-school and Prime Day insights.

  • Parents plan to spend $162 on Amazon Prime Day and complete an average of 35 percent of their total back-to-school shopping through Amazon.
  • RetailMeNot predicts more than 250 retailers will offer deals on Prime Day or extended through the Prime Week.
