ALEXANDRIA, V.A.—In raising awareness for National Sunglasses Day on June 27, 2015 The Vision Council’s recently launched online portal will provide access to marketing materials for retailers and eyecare providers. In addition to this, the Vision Council has just announced that they have resumed a partnership with Lifetime Fitness (NYSE:LTM) to reach consumers directly in promoting the importance of UV protection.

The Vision Council, who is working to educate consumers on the negative effects that UV rays have on eye health, is providing ECPs and retail outlets with the promotional items to spread the word about National Sunglasses Day as well as to aid consumers in finding the proper UV-protective eyewear for their lifestyles through the partnership.

Any ECP or retailer can create an account within the marketing portal. Vision Council Members will, however, be able to create an account and use the materials to further promote safe UV eye health practices, the importance of protective eyewear as well as promote the resources to their eyecare provider or retail customers leading up to National Sunglasses Day.

On the portal, eyecare providers and retailers can find in-store promotional items, logos and web buttons for social media and website use, and point-of-purchase materials that all highlight the relevance of UV protection and National Sunglasses Day. Accompanying these materials, downloadable videos featuring stylish sunwear and UV protection information will also be available for use in clinics and stores.

Themes stressing the importance of UV protection will be on display in Lifetime Fitness locations across the U.S. from April 1 to June 30, and The Vision Council will also host sunglasses-related activities in 12 different locations to celebrate National Sunglasses Day.

Millions of Americans everyday make the conscious decision not to wear UV-protective eyewear according to a statement by The Vision Council. In encouraging retailers and eyecare providers to spark the conversation, The Vision Council is hoping to spread the message about UV protection options and safe habits to consumers and patients.
