WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif—What goes best with bathing suits, bronzed bodies and the beach? A perfect pair of sunglasses of course, and the upcoming Baywatch movie will feature a custom-pair of aviators designed by Sheila Vance of Sama Eyewear.

The sunglasses, created for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s character, Mitch Buchannon, were designed by Sheila with the direction of the film’s costume designer, Dayna Pink. The style, an updated aviator called SYD Bay Elite, is a gold frame cast in titanium and is slightly oversized to fit Johnson’s face, but is proportionally perfect for almost any face shape, the company said.

The SYD Bay Elite style showcases infinity temples with acetate ends and the

lenses feature a medium-mirror vapor coating named “Beachside Meadow.”

Designer Sheila Vance said that the customized tone took close to a dozen custom color compounds to create the perfect lens hue. According to Vance, the color was selected to take into consideration its reflection against the water and sand color and as well as its ability to complement the colors of the lifeguard’s suits and the changing colors of the sun throughout the day.

“The color choice, its mirrored effect and anti-reflective coating was the ideal look for the superstar hero of the beach for the fun in the sun summer shooting in Miami over three months last year,” the company said.

The SYD Bay Elite frame retails for $525 and will be available at Destination: Sama stores and online for summer 2017.
