BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.—Spectacles, the trendy video sunglasses marketed by Snap, Inc., haven't had a significant impact on the company’s
bottom line, but sales have exceeded the expectations of Evan Spiegel, Snap’s co-founder and CEO.
The Venice, Calif.-based company has sold more than 150,000 pairs of Spectacles since launching them in February, 2017, Spiegel said. Speaking at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, Spiegel said the company had expected to sell 100,000 pairs of the video sunglasses by now, according to the website BizJournals.com
Snap (NYSE: SNAP) sold an estimated 42,000 pairs of Spectacles for $130 each in the second quarter, generating only $5.4 million of the company’s $182 million in revenues.
The company is reportedly working on a second generation of Spectacles that could incorporate the augmented reality technology that Snapchat
has introduced to its popular Lenses feature, the website TechCrunch.com reported
