MILAN—Luxottica is celebrating Persol’s centennial with limited edition frame designs.

The iconic brand’s history began in 1917 with Italian optician Giuseppe Ratti who manufactured “Protector” goggles for Italian aviation pilots that were eventually used by American and Swiss pilots as well. One hundred years later, the Persol brand (short for ‘per il sole’ for the sun) is recognized worldwide for its Italian style and quality.

Luxottica is marking this milestone with the new Persol 9649SG Limited Edition, a precious handmade design with only 200 numbered pieces, including the famous arrow, made for the first time of 18-carat gold. The style is embellished with details such as the “750 gold” marking on the arrow, the Persol 100th anniversary date and the limited edition certification engraved in gold on the inner temple.

Additionally, the PO6649S style has been updated with the unmistakable design of the new flex arrow. This style is available in new red Havana with blue crystal lenses; new blonde Havana with dark green lenses; Coffee with brown gradient lenses; Havana with brown polar lenses; black with green polar lenses and Sienna with light blue lenses.

The first two versions are a part of the limited edition collection which is dedicated to the Persol centennial celebration and feature the centennial date engraved in gold on the inside of the templ
