LINZ, Austria—neubau eyewear has launched its first collection of 3D printed frames. The company has developed a 3D printing process that was created and first applied at the company’s headquarters here, which allows them to craft this product with precise detail, environmentally sustainable production as well as high standards of quality.

The shapes produced for this collection are a new take on the successful “The Wire” range that debuted earlier this year. They are distinguished by fine details and textures that appear like engravings and shapes that range from the classic to the extravagant.

When the styles emerge from the printer they are all white, however, it is through the subsequent coloring process that allows for an especially rich color finish. Printing all the parts of one pair of frames takes 12 hours. Layer by layer, the laser beam melts and molds a highly refined super-light synthetic powder, and then the applications have to cool down for another 12 hours.

neubau eyewear remains faithful to its SEE & DO GOOD credo. For the company, this means a considerate and value-conscious handling of the general and local environment, even in an urban context. This high-tech production process is especially sustainable because it leaves behind almost no wasted material.
